Rascal Molting
Molting is the process of shedding mature feathers so new ones can grow in. The new feathers that grow in are the quills you're seeing on your bird's head.
Molting is a terrible time for parrots. They are itchy, cranky, irritable and just plain grumpy.
If you are close to your IRN like me you can give them a good old scritch. They love that.
Baths also help (daily), you can put some aloe in it and that will help.
Parrots molt for the first time at about 6-7 months of age, then again at about 12 months of age, then once per year after their first year.
When they molt if they want to be left alone let them be. They are going threw torture at this time, be gentle with them.
